Abstract: "In today’s world, the inventions of powerful automobile engines have increased the speed of transportation. As a result the situation has become more vulnerable to the fatal accidents. In order to reduce these fatalities, the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) has to be quick enough. To make Emergency Services faster, an Accident Detection and Notification System is required. In a developing country like India, there is a strong need of such autonomous system. For India, there have been several research papers and lab projects carried out on this topic. But none of them was able to deploy such system at Commercial Level or State Wide or Country Wide. Considering this challenge the proposed research work aims at development of such robust Accident Detection and Notification System that can be delivered as an end-user product for the welfare of Indian society. The proposed approach focuses on the development of two subsystems. One of the subsystems is Accident and Braking Style Detection System (ADS).Another subsystem is a Notification System Based on Android App in collaboration with Google Firebase. ADS is implemented on a separate hardware and it is responsible for accident detection and estimation of severity and direction of an impact. The bad braking habits of a motor-vehicle driver could result into a chain of accidents. Therefore the proposed ADS also monitors the braking style of a driver. The proposed ADS hardware incorporates a MEMS accelerometer, a microcontroller and a Bluetooth device. Upon detection of an accident, ADS’Bluetooth device triggers Android App installed in Driver’s Smartphone. Then this Android App initializes notification services like Emergency SMS, Voice call, Uploading accidental data and picture of accident spot on Google Firebase Database-Storage. A Firebase WebApp is developed that retrieves the location co-ordinates from Firebase Database and automatically adds a Marker with details on Google Map indicating the accident location. Google Firebase Realtime Database updates the data in milliseconds. It replaces conventional ‘http’ protocol with ‘websocket’ providing reliable and faster data transfer between android and firebase. The accurate accident detection provided by ADS and rich notification services provided by Android + Google Firebase forms a complete package that is highly accurate, low cost and ready to deploy in any type of motor vehicle."
