Integration of restful services in an agro-advisory system
In the current age, a very large amount of data relating to the agricultural domain like weather information, soil health status etc is being collected using different sources like remote satellites and sensors. But it is not used optimally by farmers due to lack of mediums for that information to flow. Other factors that hinder the flow are language differences, presentation of the information and lack of technology to access that information. ICT can help to bridge that gap by creating systems that are easier to access, easy to use and are able to answer basic queries for the farmers that might help them in improving their farming practices. Such a system should make use of all the data sources freely available and provide processed information that helps the users take informed decisions. An agro advisory system is one where farmers and other people associated with agricultural domain can get automatic recommendations and advices for their queries. Considering the amount of research and development being done in the field, the problem is to distribute that information and research by presenting it to the end users. The information can be used to leverage the power of ICT to improve production and cultivation methods. We envision a platform where the farmers or other interested users can get access to that information using a very simple easy to use system.
